Some 13 year old girls dream of white picket fences, a nice home and “happily ever after”, while others dream of escape, fewer beatings and one less “john”.
Currently human trafficking is tied with weapons for the second most illegal trafficked “commodity”. It is recognized as the second largest criminal activity in the world. And right here in our own back yard Houston is recognized as a “main hub”.
The problem is that as long as we have a demand traffickers will find a supply. Victims are the result of “supply and demand” Without a demand there is no need for a supply therefore there is no need for traffickers to go and “find, recruit, kidnap, or coerce” children into the “industry”, thus victimizing them.
We at TSTOP are looking for ways to address the demand side of this issue. We are looking for a group of creative thinkers who want to think together and then act and recruit activists. Let’s start a discussion about how we can end the demand.
We are addressing this issue through 7 venues – Churches, Truck Stops, College Campuses, Men’s clubs and Organizations, First offender prostitution programs, Hotels, and transportation depots. We are looking for volunteers and creative ways to engage these groups.
This blog is also designed to increase awareness as well as spawn ideas that others can engage in beyond the scope of our project.
